2022.06.24b Alta to Hammerfest

Friday, 24th June 2022 - Alta to Hammerfest 

Take off from Alta after 10 P.M. aiming to land at Hammerfest around 12:30 A.M.!!! 

Stunning evening for a late-night flight… up the coast and then hang a left, over and around the north cape!! See all the tourists on the point looking at the sun… photobomb their pics with our fly-by!!😆 the sun was so high up still!! And the most northern Norwegian cliffs we so beautifully lit up with a golden glow!!! 

Then we saw some whales!!! 🐳 🐳 🐳 actually loads of whales!!! Feeding in groups!!  

Arrived at Hammerfest at 12:40 A.M.!! Mission accomplished - and no dusk in sight!

Walked across town to our hotel at 1:30 A.M.!!! In broad daylight - it was good to decompress after all that flying!!  

Stayed in Hammerfest for two days as airports are shut early on a Saturday!! We did make it to the airport in the morning just to check on the plane and tell the ground staff we weren’t leaving yet!! The lovely Avinor folks showed us around all their massive snow-cleaning digger and trucks!!!! Epic!! 

Walked up the Hammerfest hill for the views - very pretty! 

And on the way down… we saw the town reindeer!!! AMAZING…. Just chilling!!! Got some ice cream and sat with the reindeer enjoying our snack in the sun!! 

Beers and dinner with a sunshine view then back to the hotel for bed.

But not before we saw the reindeer come out to play in the night (from our hotel room window) just in time as they started to cause havoc in the town centre… drinking out of the fountain… eating the plants and bushes… and just genuinely walking around like they own the place…. Which, let's face it, they probably do!!

Time to say goodbye to Hammerfest and start making our way back down south!
